How can we support your education?

EHL is dedicated to providing financial assistance to deserving students through our various scholarships. They are designed to support students with financial needs to cover the costs associated with their studies. These scholarships aim to ease the financial burden and provide students with the opportunity to focus on their academic and career goals.

Students applying for the master's programs can obtain financial aid to cover tuition fees, with one option covering the entire 18-month duration and the other limited to covering fees for the first semester only.

 

The HES-SO scholarship for the Master's in Hospitality Management and the Master's in Global Hospitality Business is applicable to all Swiss nationals who have parents residing in Switzerland or who fulfill the following conditions at the time of their registration for this master's degree:

  • Students of Swiss nationality whose parents live abroad, or whose mother and father are deceased and live abroad.
  • Refugees and stateless persons of full age allocated to a Swiss canton, whose father and mother are deceased or whose parents live abroad.
  • Foreigners of full age who have their civil residence in Switzerland, whose father and mother are deceased or whose parents live abroad.
  • Foreign students of full age who have lived and worked in Switzerland on a permanent basis for at least two years. They must be financially independent and not be part of an academic training at the same time.
  • Students who are not Swiss citizens but whose parents or legal guardians (if applicable) have their civil residence in Switzerland.
  • Non-Swiss students whose parents live in the Geneva border area and who at least one of them is working in the Canton of Geneva.

The EHL Foundation is committed to providing financial support to students enrolled in the Master's in Hospitality Management and the Master's in Global Hospitality Business programs.

 

The foundation offers two types of financial support:

Partial scholarships: A sum of money is allocated with no obligation of repayment, to cover part of the tuition fees and/or compulsory study expenses.
Honorary loans: A sum of money is loaned at 0% interest to cover part of the tuition fees.

Eligibility criteria for financial support are as follows:

  • Demonstrated skills and achievements in the hospitality and service sector, such as proficiency in foreign languages and honors in public service.
  • Academic background and academic results that demonstrate commitment to academic and professional success.
  • Financial situation indicating the need for a scholarship or loan, with funds allocated to students who need them most.

The Hirschmann Foundation is dedicated to supporting students pursuing the EHL Master's in Hospitality Management who have:

  • Achieved above-average results in their Bachelor's studies.
  • Are continuing their studies at the Master's level at a Swiss university of applied sciences recognized by the Swiss Confederation, with no prolonged interruption after obtaining their Bachelor's degree.
  • Are socially committed to a Policy Kitchen run by foraus.
The grant for Master's studies typically amounts to CHF 5,000, with some exceptions where it can be as high as CHF 10,000. Personal circumstances are considered during the assessment process.

The Hirschmann Foundation believes that by supporting students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to the field of hospitality, the foundation contributes to the advancement of the industry and helps cultivate future leaders in the field.

Program Application online

The initial stage of the application process entails submitting your application through the dedicated online application portal. It is important to ensure that all necessary documents are included and submitted in line with the program's eligibility criteria.

The following documents must be submitted using the online form:

  • Cover Letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A certified copy of your Bachelor's degree or an official transcript showing your degree completion.
  • Transcript: An official copy of your academic transcript indicating your grades and courses completed during your undergraduate studies.
  • English Proficiency Exam: Proof of English language proficiency, which can be demonstrated through standardized tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, or other recognized equivalents.
  • Passport Picture: A recent passport-sized photograph of the candidate.
  • Letter of Reference/Recommendation: A letter of reference or recommendation from an academic figure, such as a former university professor, or from a previous employer as a work reference. This letter should provide insight into the candidate's character, abilities, and potential for success in the program.

Evaluation and Admission to the Program

Upon receipt of your complete application, the Admissions Commission will meticulously evaluate it. Should you be shortlisted for an interview, prompt notification will follow. These interview sessions, each lasting approximately 45 minutes, will be conducted virtually, ensuring utmost convenience and accessibility. Subsequent to the interview, the Admissions Commission will engage in a thorough deliberation process to make a final decision.

Scholarships Application

To obtain one of the three available scholarships, follow the application procedure detailed below, which includes providing confirmation of your school application or proof of enrollment to apply for financial aid. Your application must include all required documents. Here is a list of required documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Last available tax certificates from  sponsors and/or your own (if applicable)
  • Copy of all bank statements for
  • sponsors and students for the last three months (balance only, no transaction details)
    Sponsors' and/or your last 3 pay slips (if applicable)
  • All current transcripts or transcripts from your last school
  • 2 letters of recommendation (1 from a professor if applicable and 1 from a former employer/professor). The letter of recommendation must be written on letterhead and signed by hand.
The deadlines for submitting your application are as follows:

HES-SO: April 1 application deadline
EHL Foundation: April 1 application deadline
Hirschmann Scholarship: April 15 / October 15 application deadline

Results and Agreement

Upon completion of the evaluation process, you will be formally informed of the Scholarship Committee's decision regarding your application. If your application is successful, you will receive an official notification outlining the details of the scholarship, including the amount awarded and the terms and conditions for receiving the funds.

Conversely, if your application does not meet the selection criteria, you will receive an official notification explaining the reasons for the decision. In this case, you will have the opportunity to reapply next year. 

EHL plays no direct role in the decision-making process of the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee is an independent entity that evaluates student applications for the scholarship and makes decisions based on established criteria and standards. EHL provides support to the Committee but does not participate in the decision-making process.

FAQ

How are scholarship applications evaluated?

Excluding the EHL Foundation Fund, all scholarships are assessed by internal third parties. EHL has no say in the selection of scholarship recipients, and we are unable to hasten the process. Our role is to guide and support applicants in understanding where and how to submit their applications.

Can I renew my scholarship application if I'm not selected?

if you are not selected for a scholarship this year, you are of course welcome to reapply the following year.

How much do scholarships cover in terms of tuition fees?

Scholarships only cover tuition fees, so candidates are responsible for covering living and meal expenses. 

Are there any scholarships that cover living expenses or travel costs?

Unfortunately, scholarships cover tuition fees but do not include accommodation and travel expenses.
